Expected Value (EV) & Sharp Score
Expected value (EV) is what you'd earn on average per dollar staked if you made the same bet many times over. Positive EV means a price is objectively better than the true odds justify — not a gut feeling, a number. Sharp Score is our own 0–100 rescaling of EV: 50 is exactly fair, and it climbs the more a price beats the true number.
In practice
Fair says a team should win 40% of the time (roughly +150 fair odds). A book pays +180 on that same team instead. EV works out to about +12% — real, positive value, because the book is paying more than the true price justifies.
Why it matters here
EV is the only honest measure of whether a price is genuinely good. It's also the exact number our Sharp Score and the board's value plays are built on top of — nothing on this site calls a play "good" without EV backing it up.
