Line Movement & Steam

Line movement is simply how a price changes between when it opens and when the game starts. "Steam" refers specifically to a sudden, sharp move — usually a sign that serious (sharp) money just hit one side hard, all at once.

In practice

A line opens at -110/-110, then within minutes shifts to -130/+110 with no obvious news attached. That's steam — the market reacting to money, not to information the public can see directly.

Why it matters here

Line movement is the market thinking out loud. Comparing where a line opened to where it closed is exactly what CLV measures — and some days the market barely moves at all, which is real information too, not a failure to find a story.
